I have to say, Kickers did quite a job with these two. I don’t usually go for the ultra tough looking sandals, but these look very comfy. Both come with good reviews too.

The Peplum comes in two multicolored variants while the higher Pepita comes in a whopping six!

I love the fact that the Pepita comes in many many colors. My favorite? The yellow. Of course, it’s not as versatile as the brown or grey, but it looks fun to wear. It also helps that it (the Pepita) comes with a zipper opening at the back for easy wearing.

On another note, the Peplum‘s multicolored nature makes it very versatile for pairing with different outfits. The downside? No zipper opening at the back so you literally have to buckle your way into these sandals.

Both run at very affordable prices so it makes choosing between the two even harder.

Because of the Nike Gladiateur Mid craze, I have found myself constantly on the lookout for roman sandals with a sporty edge. The style has grown on me and I think it’s a nice different take on the sporty sandal. I’m sure many women out there have also got a thing for tomboyish fashion like myself and also like their sandals to be both comfortable and stylish.

So when I came across the Tabi Sandal and the Tabi Wedge by Adidas Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto, I had to blog about them here on MyRomanSandals ASAP:

Aren’t they divine? They also come in black (I think you can see the roman sandal origins in the black version more), but these white ones show off the translucent soles and the squared-off heel and toe better.

These wraparound sandals are not cheap by any means (the sandal is $364.00 and the wedge is $404.00) but you can expect only the most fine-tuned style aesthetics from Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The Tabi Sandal and the Tabi Wedge look deceptively simple, but their proportions, the thickness of the straps, and even the way the ties wrap around the feet and the ankles are all impeccably designed.

The Adidas Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto Tabi Sandal and the Tabi Wedge may be expensive compared to other trendy roman sandals, but their timeless look is effortless and will last you open-toe season after open-toe season. Purchase them through Zappos.

I wrote about these awesome roman sandals before, saying how limited they are and how difficult it is to find the other colors. This fast-moving shoe style was snatched up the moment they hit the shelves and were quickly gone the first time they restocked them. Now they’re back and most probably in very limited quantities too. Grab ‘em now while all sizes are still complete!

Back then, I also wasn’t so sure about the roman sandal + sneaker look that these Nike Gladiateur Mids had going on, but now I’m obviously a total convert. These roman sandal sneakers are just the thing to butch up really feminine dresses and skirts and the black ones would function as great city slickers. They’d look good with the predominantly black wardrobe of urbanites and would be comfortable to walk in to boot. Oh and of course they’d be a perfect match with gym clothes and sportswear, although a simple hoodie + tank top + leggings combo would look just as good:

When the sandaled athletes started winning, people became highly suspicious of them and accused them of cheating. Eventually, the additional traction that the sandals provided was recognized and roman sandals became generally accepted and widely worn.

Historically, roman sandals were more than just protection and decoration for the feet. So when we came across the Gladietur Sandals from Nike, we thought the design was really appropriate considering the sandal’s athletic background:

We’re not surprised. A cross between anything trendy and sporty often end up looking like a joke (Hello Kitty Basketball or Louis Vuitton motorcycle anyone?). Trendsters are more willing to suffer for the sake of style while sporty people won’t sacrifice comfort and performance for anything else. But when done carefully, it could look alright. Right?
